Conditioning involves a learning association between an individual and events that occur in an individual's environment. A learned reaction to a stimulus occurs because of previous conditioning ( onditioned response). Thus, a conditioned emotional response is a feeling or emotion that occurs when an emotional response is classically conditioned to a previous neutral stimulus (Friedman & Schustack, 2006). Classical conditioning involves the pairing of some neutral (conditioned) stimulus (e.g. tone, sound) with an unconditioned stimulus (e.g. light) to naturally evoke a learning response (Bradizza & Stasiewkz, 2009. According to Bradizza and Stasiewkz, Classical conditioning assists in identifying potential aversive situations.
