Both verbal and nonverbal communication are important in the workplace. With verbal communication, a person can tell if he or she is truthful through their tone, and by the words that are spoken. However, with nonverbal communication, an individual can tell a lot about someone if they are looking to the ground or away without making any kind of eye contact, or are hunched over as if not caring about what is spoken. People go through these processes, function, and components when speaking with others consciously and unconsciously. They come natural, but most of the time people are aware of what they are saying and doing. Sometimes a person is sincere, but at other times it is not. This is where it can become subjective in nature, but it is up to him or her to decide.

The potential barriers to effective communication are important. These include apapthy and a terrible attitude. When people do not care about what others think, and in turn decide to hurt them, then this can greatly affect a person. He or she may choose to not commuicate to him or her as a result.
