The human visual system responds to light defined as waves of electromagnetic energy (wave lengths] (Pinel, 2006) that provides information regarding objects and events. It is well documented in research that demonstrates how important attention is to factors such as perception, awareness, judging and making decisions. For instance, stimulation becomes available through sensory information allowing for the recognition of events and objects in which a previous stimulus has been presented (Sternberg, 2006). This previous stimulus or "priming" makes the target easier to recognize (Sternberg, 2006). According to Sternberg, attention refers to information that is noticed, and involves the awareness of some stimuli; and is important to the encoding of information for learning and memory.
