The self-assessment utilized to check for personal attributes in relation to awareness and sensitivity to issues and concerns of cultural diversity and competence is Goode's (2006) "Promoting Cultural Diversity and Cultural Competency: Self-Assessment Checklist for Personnel Providing Behavioral Health Services and Supports to Children, Youth and Their Families." This checklist is available for download at a variety of source including from the archives of Georgetown University and the National Institutes of Health. It is utilized as a means to create a reflexive practice within the practitioners in the field so as to impart awareness to cultural diversity and its many concerns for the purpose of having an effective, impactful, ethical and culturally-sensitive service. For Blau, Caldwell and Liebermann (2009), regular assessments like this can be considered as part of best practice measures in mental health services.
