Fixed interval: A reward (reinforcer) comes with the first response after a certain time has elapsed (time interval stays the same)

Variable interval: A reward (reinforcer) comes with the first response after a certain time has elapsed but the length of time varies (variable time interval before next response is rewarded)

Fixed ratio: A reward comes after a certain number of responses (fixed number of responses between rewards)

Variable ratio: A reward comes after a variable number of responses (variable number of responses between each reward)
