Li, X., McGue, M., & Gottesman, I. (2012). Two Sources of Genetic Liability to Depression: Interpreting the Relationship Between Stress Sensitivity and Depression Under a Multifactorial Polygenic Model. Behavior Genetics, 42(2), 268-277.

As you examine the similar areas of study or studies that lead up to the current research, the article embodies the importance of the
questions as the authors cite psychopathological theories, clinical observations, and research to suggest a genetic link to depression. Using a longitudinal twin-study design, they identified two genetically-influenced sources of depression risk, namely stress sensitivity. The literature reviewed and the problem statement seem to confirm the hypothesis that "stress sensitivity acts as a trait that plays an important role in the etiology of depression. For example, heightened stress sensitivity could be a psychological scar which influences the recurrence of depression."
