Creative sentencing refers to innovative or nontraditional punishments imposed by courts in lieu of conventional incarceration. These sentences are often chosen specifically to fit individual crimes and deter the offense in the future. Examples of such sentencing include forcing vandals to repair damages resulting from their crimes and publicly shaming offenders by compelling them to wear signs which describe their offenses.
