Mara Salvatrucha, also known as (MS-13) is a Hispanic gang primarily made up of immigrants and nationals from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and other Central American countries. It is a fairly new gang begun in the early 1980's. It was started in the city of Los Angeles by immigrants from El Salvador. The initial purpose of the gang was to protect El Salvadoran immigrants from rival gangs.
