1: The reason that only radio and visible light telescopes are used on earth is that any other waves with frequency higher than the UV are just absorbed, scattered or reflected back to space by the atmosphere and never reach an observer on the ground. This is a good thing. without this protective cover of the atmosphere the earth surface will be bombarded with high-energy radiation (x-ray gamma). At this stage earth will no longer support life.
