How long would it take sunlight to melt 2 meters (thick) of snow on a mountainside ? Assume that the snow is 50% snow and 50% air, and that the only the sun does any melting (not a good assumption, I knw, but lets do only one thing at a time here). Let the angle of the sun be such that 1000 watts per square meter is incident, but 90% of this light is reflected.
