A packing crate is placed on a plane inclined at an angle of 350 from horizontal. If the coefficient of static friction between the crate and the plane is 0.65, will the crate slide down the plane? Justify your answer.© BrainMass Inc. brainmass.com December 24, 2021, 7:49 pm ad1c9bdddf

Let the mass of the crate be m. Then, the forces acting on the crate are
(1) Self weight = mg
(2) The normal reaction from the surface, N = mg cos 35. = 0.82mg
(3) The force of friction acting up the plane = coefficient of friction x N =
0.65 x 0.82mg = 0.533mg.
Component of the self-weight along the plane, in the downward direction =
mg sin 35 = 0.574mg.
Since the downward force of 0.574mg is greater than the upward force of 0.533 mg,
the box will slide.© BrainMass Inc. brainmass.com December 24, 2021, 7:49 pm ad1c9bdddf>
