The concept of the self, which could be seen from metaphysical, psychological or linguistic points of view, is not the clearest of all concepts. From the metaphysical point of view, the self has been called the soul or the mind as that which transcends and organizes our experiences. But some philosophers, like Hume (in Treatise on Human Nature) held that the self does not exist. Hume thought that what was referred to as the self is nothing but a bundle of successive perceptions which does not justify the concept of the self.
