The formula y=X*c^(t/T) can be used to describe growth and decay in nature. The final amount is y, the initial amount is X, c is the constant of proportionality, t is time and T is the time per cycle of c, when you use the growth and decay formula to solve a problem involving half-life, you will use c=1/2 and T is the half-life. Carbon-14 tests are often performed to determine the age of an organism that died a long time ago. Carbon-14 has a half-life of 5730 yrs. if a turtle shell is found and tested to have 65% of its original carbon-14, how old is it?
