    Diversity is not a "black or white" quality, but of all individuals and the different levels of groups to which they belong. In the UK, legislation and policy has "grouped" inequalities faced by different people in six different "equality strands": gender - race - age - disability - faith - sexual orientation. The cross cutting topic of human rights has also been introduced through the Human Rights Act 1998 to address multi-strand issues such as multiple identities (e.g. discrimination faced by a Black woman who might also be lesbian or disabled).
