It does not say much about the effect of violence in media on crime, mainly because there are many other correlates or determinants of crime, other than violence in the media. However, violence in the media has clearly been linked to violent crimes as well as other socio-cultural and psychological factors. As well, different factors might provoke crime in different eras. However, other 'crime' factors remain constant over time.

However, it is important not to think because one factor(s) is ruled as being linked to violence and crime (e.g., decline in the family, easy access to guns, heavy drinking, disappropriate male to female ration, etc.) that other factors are therefore ruled out as possible links to crime (e.g., violence in the media).
