What are some of the potential positives and negatives of public executions?

I cannot highlight many potential positives for public executions because I am an opponent of the death penalty, but those who are proponents of this form of justice would suggest that future criminals could be deterred from committing similar crimes in relation to the person executed. I do find many negative consequences of public executions including the exposure to many people in society to violence conducted by the state. Violence begets violence in my opinion; therefore, public executions facilitate an acceptance of violence in society that could lead to further violent acts being committed by the public.

The offender who will face the public execution.

The offender will be the person with the least autonomy in a public execution because their most difficult moment in their life will be made into a public spectacle. The fear of death that is tantamount the human condition will be magnified with the reality that the offender is being killed by the state for public viewing.
