As you already know from the other response, the Germans were able to gain great territorial advances in using the "attack in depth" tactic but failed to capture any strategic objectives. The Germans suffered high causalities and faced difficulties in defending the newly gained territory. So as a result the impressive territorial gains by the Germans came at such a high cost that they were unable to achieve any tactical success.
