    The first war is also known as the 'Great war'. It took place during the period of 1914-1918. This was a major war that occurred in Europe and involved all the word's greatest nations at that time and period. The powers pulled together in two opposing alliances which were centered at the triple Entente and the triple alliance. The military forces that took part in the Great War were more than 70 million. Because of great technological advances in the machinery that was used in the war a lot of harm, death and destruction of the land occurred. The main situation that triggered the war which was in the latent stage to happen was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand which took place on the 28th of June 19149 (The Battle, 2000).
