The Vroom-Yetton-Jago Decision Model

The Vroom-Yetton-Jago decision model (VYJDM) is a form of situational leadership theory in management studies and industrial/organizational psychology developed between Victor Vroom, Phillip Yetton and Arthur Yago from the 70's to the 80's. They believe that the best style of leadership is contextual and contingent to the situation. There are 3 factors that must be considered - the quality or rightness of a decision, the commitment to the decisions and the constraints, including time. The VYJDM use codes to present the decision making process that a leadership type takes on as follows (Mindtools 2022):
• "Autocratic (A1): You use the information that you already have to make the decision, without requiring any further input from your team."
