    As I am sure you already know, the direct purpose of all report writing, whether long or short, is to communicate information to an audience. In that way all writing is the same. Whether you are writing an essay, an article, a summary, or even a story your purpose is to provide the structure and organization the information must have if the reader is going to understand and remember. Furthermore, in all types of writing it is your responsibility to provide meaning to the information by way of a focus or main idea.
