The one thing that makes education performance different from state to state is the set of educational standards and curriculum which is determined by each individual state (And not a federal standard). This basically means that each state decides what their students should learn and what is not essential. One state, for example, may feel that science and mathematics are an essential part of the school curriculum and set standards that are rich in science mathematics requirements while another state may find that mathematics and science are not as high on a priority list and set their standards to reflect what they feel instead.
