What do you feel are the current trends in social studies (thematic units, collaborative learning, hands-on, etc)?
How long might the trends last? What types of instructional materials are available to support these trends?
In my opinion, in 1st and 2nd grade the instruction tends to be more culturally universal meaning that teachers tend to teach about those things relevant to most cultures such as housing, food, custom, or tradition, as well as cultural and environmental geography.
