The country selected is France. Marketing in France is similar to that of marketing productions in the United States except the language is different. The products must be labeled in French. In addition, the advertising, instructions and labeling programs should be in French. While distributing goods in France, care should be taken to avoid traditional wholesalers and retailers as the hypermarkets are gaining ground. The main outlets that will be of interest to the US exporters will be city-center stores & Department stores, convenience stores, supermarkets, hypermarkets and hard discounters. The best known hypermarkets are Leclerc, Carrefour, System U, Intermarche and Auchan. Hypermarkets and supermarkets dominate the shopping scene at France.
When advertising in France, the American advertisers need to be careful about complying with the minimum and objective criteria for truth in advertising established by the European Commission. The American marketer should consider the EU's Audiovisual Media Services Directive, the Directive on the Sale of Consumer Goods and Associated Guarantees and production specifications in advertising.
