The world has warmed by 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit since the depths of the last ice age, 18,000 to 20,000 years ago. Heating from increased greenhouse gases enhances the hydrological cycle and increases the risk for stronger, longer-lasting or more intense droughts, and heavier rainfall events and flooding. Evidence, although circumstantial, is widespread across the globe and often manifested in the form of frequent changes in climate, disappearing galciers, extinction of species etc.
