(1) Strain or Steric energy

(a) Draw an alklycyclohexane and determine the strain energy for equatorial and axial positions of the alkyl group. The easiest way to do this is to determine the equatorial value and then replace an axial H with the alkyl group. Comment with appropriate views as illustrations.

(b) Draw a 1,3-dialkylcyclohexane with the groups cis. Invert both centers (a->e and e->a). Comment on the difference in energies using appropriate views as illustrations.
