The recently redesigned Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (cms.gov) website has taken a step back into time to create a largely text based website as compared to their recent design which included several clickable, yet frequently confusing, graphics and rotating banners all designed to assist in navigation. The new site contains several categorically listed links (all blue, underlined text) that are much more clearly defined as to what purpose they serve as opposed to the previous design. Although this does very little in the way of aesthetics, it truly makes the site very easy to navigate and extract information from.

The target audience of this site is varied in that, not only senior citizens are eligible for Medicare and Medicaid services. The site provides information on several programs that have been created to assist other segments of the population as well such as the CHIP program. CHIP is an acronym for Children's Health Insurance Program which was reauthorized by The Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009 (CHIPRA or Public Law 111-3). CHIP is financed by CHIPRA through FY 2013 and is designed to preserve health and dental insurance coverage for the millions of children who are qualified to receive CHIP. This legislation is designed to ensure the health and well-being of our nation's children.
