Wal-Mart mission statement is "to help people save money so they can live better".
The history of Wal-Mart is that Sam Walton, from Arkansas opened a Ben Franklin franchise in Bentonville, Arkansas in 1947, he named it "Walton's Five and Dime". He used the strategy of using slightly lower markups than competitors and achieved very high sales. The first Wal-Mart store was opened in 1962 at 719 Walnut Ave in Rogers, Arkansas In the next five years the company grew to 24 stores spread over Arkansas. In 1968, the first Wal-Mart opened outside the sate in Missouri and in Oklahoma. The company was incorporated on 31st October 1969. The next year it opened a distribution center in Bentonville, Arkansas. It became a publicly held company in October 1970. The expansion of Wal-Mart continued. It entered Tennessee in 1973, Kentucky and Mississippi in 1974, and Texas in 1975.
