You are an R&D project manager, and you have been asked to generate a new product idea and the project plan for its development. The new product is to be based on an innovative use of a mature technology. Identify the new product, and create a strategic plan for its development. For each stage in your development plan, discuss the potential risk factors and your plan for managing them.
New products must be researched and decided upon based on the needs of an audience and the ability of the company to produce the goods or services. This outline will be general. With the product choice, there will need to be some adjustments to the outline. Those adjustments might include the time to decide on marketing, the use of the survey, the consideration of targets and markets. Therefore the plan outline would look something like the following:
Current products/services of company (Products and services will be written as just products)
Possible new products compatible with current product production
Possible needs or wants of current customers
Possible needs or wants which can be expanded to new customers.
Types of materials and other resources that will be needed to create and produce new product.
What type of mature technology does the company have access to for use in this project?
How long will the new product take to create? Create a timeline of research aspects.
How long will the new product take to produce?
How will new product fit into current marketing plan?
How will marketing need to be changed for new product?
What is the target market? Markets?
Does this fit in with current demographics.
Create research survey and plan for its dispersion and collection.
