Total Quality Management

Quality is an integral part of any organization's success. From private organizations to governmental entities, businesses must be committed to delivering quality in its products/services. Quality requirements must also extend to business processes as well. Organized, quality-focused processes yield an efficient, effective and successful organization.
According to Labor Law Talk's website, "TQM is a management strategy to embed awareness of quality in all organizational processes." In order to properly manage or achieve quality assurance, organizations must utilize a full range of statistical tools which would measure effectiveness and accuracy of products and/or services. Quality can be measured by a series of TQM testing such as surveys or tests. It further adds that "TQM aims to do things right the first time, rather than need to fix problems after they emerge or fester." This follows the principle of Philip Crosby, a TQM pioneer, "'zero defects', do it right the first time'" (Clark, n.d.). The objective is to improve production of products or services rendered and have an efficient process with reduced waste and expenditure.
Collins (2002) published an article providing meanings and explanations of TQM as professionals in the field have defined it. Below are some of the definitions and the sources cited in her article:
