    The most important factor in the success of a change-based program is often a leader's ability to build, support, and direct the organization's energy. Launching this energy requires that the leader secure the organization's cooperation to create the right structure for the change program, emphasizing both short-term performance and longer-term strength, setting the right goals and creating a time line to meet them, entrenching change in the company's culture and processes, motivating employees toward accepting transformation , and reinvigorating upper-management. This is a monumental challenge requiring the strongest possible leadership to make the desired impact (Price, 2006).

    A good example of how leadership impacts project management is Kookmin Bank. When South Korea's banking system suffered a severe downturn in the 1997 Asian financial crisis, which exposed poor management and weak lending practices, Kim Jung Tae was one of the banking leaders responsible for the amazing turnaround that ensued.
