Abbott Laboratories founded in 1888 by Dr. Wallace C. Abbott, incorporated March 6, 1900, and headquartered in Abbott Park, Illinois. The organization is involved in the development, manufacturing, and sale of health care products worldwide. Abbott operates four business segments: Established Pharmaceutical Products, Diagnostic Products, Nutritional Products, and Vascular Products (Abbott, 2015).
Currently the key leadership team consists of:
Miles D. White is Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. White joined Abbott in 1984 and obtained his current position in 1999. In addition, he currently serves on the boards of Caterpillar, Inc., and the McDonald's Corporation. Formerly Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago he earned both a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in business administration from Stanford University (Abbott, 2015).
Thomas C. Freyman is Abbott's Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration. After joining the company in 1979, Mr. Freyman served in a number of financial positions including Finance Director, Division Controller, Vice President and Treasurer, and Vice President and Controller, Hospital Products Division.
