Coaching is helping a person to use his or her skills and knowledge more effectively and efficiently. A mentor, on the other hand, may teach a person new skills. Coaching might be a part of the process, but the goal is for the mentor to teach his or her student or client so that the student or client can gain new or improved skills and knowledge. In both cases, the coach and mentor have another person's success as the primary goal. How that goal is achieved is the biggest difference.
