Coercive Power
When looking at Coercive Power, one must understand its true meaning. "Coercive power is the ability to influence someone's decision making by taking something away as punishment or threatening punishment if the person does not follow instructions. It can be a severe way to get staff members to follow along with a company plan, but it can be necessary in some cases. There are advantages to holding coercive power over your employees." (Anderson 2012)
Now that we understand the type of power, we must think of how companies used this form of power. In most instances, coercive power is used when conducting union labor negotiations.

Reasonable time used to successfully to complete:
Union employees advise their union leaders that they want a $2.00 per an hour raise due to an increase in the cost of living and the fact that no raises have been given in 18 months. The Company leaders advise the Union that no raises will be given at this time to any workers do to the downturn in the economy. Union Leaders fight back and advise the Company that if raises are not given, a strike will incur. The Company advised the Union leaders that if any employee strikes, he or she will be replaced and that there are many in the community who are in need of stable employment. All Union employees walk out and strike. The Company hires replacement workers at the wage it was paying the striking workers and business moves forward.
