The McShane and Von Glinow text explains that transactional leaders work toward achieving organizational goals through using valuable rewards to motivate and focus on routine performance the standards of which they agree upon with their subordinates. Management in this model is generally by expectation, when people deviate from expectation management withholds agreed upon rewards such as raises, bonuses or vacation time. This management model focuses on providing employees with what they need to get the job done and then rewarding high performance (McShane & Von Glinow, 2005).
