As the global economy continues to recover from financial hardships, many of the workforces continue to fight for benefits and pay as it relates to their job. In saying this, we've seen a more interactive workforce as labor unions have applied pressure to employers on behalf of employees. Before we can review the legal responsibilities that employers have regarding unions we must review what a union is. Unions or labor unions are defined as an organized association of workers, often in trade or profession, formed to protect and further their rights and interests (Alston and Taubman, 2012).
