Two key factors about new firms is their spread of knowledge and managerial skills.

One of the key insights of Oviatt and McDougall is that firms do not need their own resources to internationalize. These entrepreneurial firms are defined by actions not resources. Emphasizing these actions and not resources means that Oviatt and McDougall focused on how the companies competed in the international markets.

Where and how to protect their culture within the organization and all the knowledge, innovative abilities, and inner relationships helped to define the new framework they established.
