Solution Summary

This report describes two types of research: basic and applied research. The importance of both were also emphasized. It was noted that while applied research is conducted to solve an existing problem or phenomenon, basic research would supplement by providing information that could make one understand the said phenomenon. Understanding a phenomenon (provided by basic research) is important in solving a problem (done by applied research). Hence, basic research may be said to be as important as applied research.
