Environmental scanning has increased in importance in view of the globalization of business, opening of new markets and changing political scenario. Environmental scanning is fundamental to the planning process but its importance has changed earlier the current factors were scanned today there is a need to be proactive and predict what environmental factors will be in the short run and in the long run. Earlier environmental scanning an integral part of all localized planning and strategic decision making, however now it has become important to scan and predict the environment in near future and where large overseas investments are involved even in the long run.. The lesson learned is that the research and assessment of known or proposed changes in the areas of politics, the environment, social & demographic change, technology, economic issues or legal issues, in the short, medium and long term is important, however, it is more important to formulate effective strategies to meet with the circumstances that emerge from the predicted strategies.
