Asset Classes are new & quite confusing to me. I have to write an 800 word essay which I determine the asset classes for the mutual fund - TD Ameritrade and the Dow 30 organization - Wal-Mart. In the paper, I must also explain how classifications of TD Ameritrade mutual fund, Wal-Mart, and the current investment environment impact organizational decisions concerning the composition of TD Ameritrade's portfolio and Wal-Mart's portfolio.

Asset class can alternatively be defined as the collection of securities demonstrating similar behaviors based on same policies and regulations. The three primary asset classes are bonds (or fixed income), equities (or stocks) and cash equivalents (or money market instruments).

TD Ameritrade is a leading online brokerage offering a wide range of mutual funds from numerous mutual fund houses. Hence, TD Ameritrade offers a wide range of investing options in different asset classes to its investors. For example, the company offers equity funds that invest in equity stocks in small, mid-caps and large cap companies. Similarly, TD Ameritrade offers money market funds whose investments are in high-yield short-term instruments, such as federal securities, CDs and commercial paper.
