    In this assignment students will be justifying selection of a country (from their 3 trade bloc countries) for Riordan's expansion.
    In a 1,050 -1,750-word paper, using a problem solving approach:
    Present the country selected for the Riordan expansion.
    Assemble an analytical report from research within the Riordan Manufacturing, a fictitious company. in the University Library and critique at least 5 key data components.
    Be sure to consider Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) as it relates to the selected country.
    Provide a justification for how the data supports the selected country as far as alignment with Riordan's business objectives.

    Country Analysis for Investment: Poland

    Riordan's strategic objective is to better penetrate the global market to achieve its goal of remaining the world's premier plastics company. This challenge represents an opportunity for Riordan to pursue a grand strategy based on its environmental scan which will deliver greater profitability and growth and improve its competitive position to achieve its stated goal of becoming the global leader in plastic products. The generic strategy that best serves the attainment of the opportunities in these grand strategies is one of focus. The market focus strategy will work best for Riordan because in attempting to establish global leadership Riordan is striving to have a special appeal to several specialized groups of consumers focusing on their cost or differentiation concerns. This focus strategy will be either low-cost or differentiation based, depending on the needs of the foreign market that Riordan will be attempting to penetrate. Based on its country statistics Poland presents the best market penetration opportunity for Riordan in the European Union (EU).

    Country Overview

    The economic reforms introduced in 1990 removed price controls, eliminated most subsidies to industry, opened markets to international competition, and imposed strict budgetary and monetary discipline in Poland. Poland was the first former centrally planned economy in central Europe to end its recession and return to growth in the early 1990s. The private sector now accounts for over two-thirds of GDP. In early 2002, the government announced a new set of economic reforms known as the Hausner Plan, designed in many ways to complete the process launched in 1990. The package acknowledged the need to improve Poland's investment climate, particularly the conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises, and better prepare the economy to compete as an EU member. The government also aimed to improve Poland's public finances to prepare for eventual adoption of the euro.
