INTRODUCTION
According to the United Nations Brundtland (1987) commission report, sustainable development refers to the development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable development according to Valadbigi & Ghobadi (2010) is the effective and efficient management and exploration of the natural, economic, political, human, as well as the financial resources in such a way and manner that will build and sustain structural and infrastructures that will meet the need of the present generations in a consistent, stable and satisfactory manner. This definition makes references to the use of resources such as land, water, generic plant, animal and other ecological resources, technical, social and economical resources in building a strong and a viral society where the development and the growth of the citizens will be long lasting and passed over from generations to generations.

RENEWABLE ENERGY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENTS
The need to enhance brand values, reputations, increasing sales, reducing costs, enhancing brand values, improving community life, enhance effectiveness and efficiency among others are the challenges confronting leaders both in the business and the government communities worldwide. In order to combat these challenges and others that are the major determinants factors for successful leaders all over the world, there is the need for corporate sustainability and social responsibility planning.
Fisher (2009) claimed that corporate sustainability planning requires corporate leaders to make good business decisions that will help to save money through waste reduction, the elimination of inefficient systems of operations and the adoption of pollution protection operations that will make the business environment to be conducive and save for the employees, customers, vendors and the entire community as a whole. This new management philosophy creates an alignment between the business objectives and the economic, social, political as well as the environmental goals and challenges of the community where the business is operating.
Renewable energy and the effective and efficient use of energy are cheaper for the society than the traditional use of fossil and nuclear fuels. This is because, if the external costs of obtaining the fuels and paying for the damages from emissions are internalized in the price, therefore, the harm of emission, the finite nature of fossil and nuclear fuel materials as well as the ecological sustainability would necessitates the need for expansion into the renewable energy supplies and the effective and efficient use of energy in the long run (Twidell & Weir, 2006).

The importance of renewable energy in sustainable development when compared to the use of fossil and nuclear fuels cannot be overemphasized. The factors that are essential in order to improve the benefits as well as maintaining an outstanding energy distribution in the Nigerian and the African Nations energy policy includes increased efficiency of supply and end-use, reduction in pollution, increased harnessing of renewable supplies and lifestyles considerations. The positive influences of these factors will help in the achievement of a sustainable economic development in the African region and in the world.

THE ROLE OF CULTURE IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Plessis & Rautenbach (2010) claimed that culture is an abstract driver of human behavior and attitudes which has momentum and faces constant change as people's context, demands, needs as well as time changes. In a reference to the work of Throsby (2008) on the definition of culture, Pessis & Rautenbach (2010) stressed that culture is the activities that are ...
