Professional values are the values of self-interest that can be changed and restrained only by the consumers' demands of competence and the different forces of the marketplace. Professionals are also ordinary humans just like anyone else. However, we know the fact that these professionals are called to perform extraordinary tasks that require a higher different degree of effacement of one's self-interest than are required in most other human activities that are done. Ultimately, these professionals, in their own way of performing their professions, must adhere and respect moral values because of the special nature of their joband calling. The moral character of the professional is his/her only protection against experiences that impinge closely in his/her humanity. Professional values is so important that when a professional fails, and falls below the standard that is expected of him/her, a fierce criticism in the profession is evoked.
