In existential philosophy, the human subject is examined from the perspective of the acting, feeling, living human being, and the conditions in which human being exist. They feel that philosophy should not be very different from human experience. Sartre was an atheistic existentialist. He felt that human existence is always situated and not abstract. Sartre held that existence precedes essence and that the actual life of a person is what constitutes her essence. The existential philosophy focuses on the concrete human existence and the conditions of this existence. The philosophy makes use of anxiety, or anguish to experience a feeling of freedom. Freedom in existential philosophy refers to the assumption that there are no relevant or absolutely good or bad values. The freedom is limited and conditioned by facticity. Facticity determines several values a person holds. From one perspective facticity is related to the past that shapes a person's present values.
