The mishandling of power can most certainly lead to corruption, both in the private and government sectors. Found at the core of almost all scandals are those in higher positions, cutting deals to line their pockets, or the pockets of others who promise "turf" protection and or promotions. A very prominent scandal involving corruption practice is with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and FannieMae. After many years of investigation, it was indeed found that the cause of the corruption stemmed from those in power abusing it. They created programs that affected the poor, but promoted a lavish lifestyle for themselves. They used obscure political polices to feed into their corruption, thus ending in a scandal that rocked the housing industry and sent it plummeting. http://www.downsizinggovernment.org/hud/scandals. This is an all-too familiar story that is repeated time-after-time.
