According to Slack, Rodrigue, and Comtois (2012), there are seven modes of transportation:
1. Road transportation - road transportation has an average operational flexibility as vehicles can serve several purposes but are rarely able to move outside roads. Road transport systems have high maintenance costs, both for the vehicles and infrastructures. Road transportation can take minutes, hours, or days depending on the size of the freight and the distance in which the goods are to be delivered. (ex. UPS Ground or Fed Ex Ground)
