Data is basic facts of the world. For example, you may be 6ft tall, have red hair and green eyes. This is "data". You have red hair whether this is written down somewhere or not. Data is descriptive. It can therefore be considered as a description of the world, as we perceive data through our senses and our brain processes it. Historically, human beings have used this data to form knowledge of the world. Whereas data is limited to knowledge obtained through our senses, information allows the expansion of knowledge beyond the range of our senses.
