    According to Petersmark (2014), "CIOs run IT divisions, set business technology strategic directions and provide leadership to their IT staffs as they work to fulfill their business technology goals and objectives while CEOs run organizations, set strategic directions and provide leadership to their employees as they work to fulfill their missions".
    Both of them are important. Consider this: CEOs plot the overall organizational strategy. He is more concerned on the general health of the company. A CIO's main focus is only one part of the organization which is to guard and maintain the information technology aspect.
