The artist were angry very angry because their freedom was taken away. Sure they could paint or sing songs but during that time what did most of the artist see? they saw the harsh reality of war and how it affected people. That's why most of them just refused to paint or sing because the attitude was different and they were in fear. I think that the shock that you were referring to was seeing death all around them. I know if i was an artist i could not paint with all of that going on LOL!! and then too what about all the artist that were drafted in to the war. Those were really bad times. explain
