Organizations with Competitive Advantage
Introduction
This paper is about organizations with competitive advantage. Those competitive advantages include differentiation which is delivering benefits that far exceed the competition's product or services, cost leadership which is delivering the same benefits as another company but at a lower cost, and then response which is doing it faster. It will give three different organizations that demonstrate each of these competitive advantages with specific actions, policies, and events that show why this makes sense.
Differentiation
To fully understand differentiation and its definition of excelling over the competition, let's look at the organization of Zappos. Zappos.com was founded in 1999 for online shoes. They also deal in handbags, clothing, and many other products. Even though Zappos.com does not ship internationally except for Canada, it does a healthy business. The secret to customer loyalty is caring about the customer. Unlike most, Zappos.com offers free shipping on orders placed on the website, with no minimum order sizes or special exceptions, and 90 percent of the orders reach their destination the next business day. If you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase, you can return your order to the warehouse for a full refund. Return domestic shipping is free. Zappos.com has had a great impact especially due to the uniqueness and variety of items they offer online. Countries all over want Zappos to ship internationally so they can have access to the quality products they offer, but as of date, they have not done that. They ship in the United States of America, U.S. Territories, Military APO/FPO addresses and Canada. Orders for Canada are placed through Canada.Zappos.com. On July 22, 2009, Amazon.com acquired Zappos.com for 1.2 billion dollars.
