Both of these are Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). However they differ in many ways, in process and in resolution.

Mediation is a third party method of finding resolution for disputes. The disputing parties meet with a third person, neutral party. The process includes a discussion where both sides present their stories. Clarification of issues is guided by the mediator and problems are discussed.
